May 1975......
.....and the youth group at Christ (Anglican) Church Hawthorn decided to run a youth outreach for local teens in their area. Two members Lindsay Paterson and Reg Ellery already had musical experience and they became the core of a group that was drawn from other local churches as well as the Gospel Theatre band.

Initial Line-up :
Ralph Hiatt (lead vocals/conga), Peter York (vocals/guitar), Lindsay Paterson (trombone/guitar/vocals), Reg Ellery (bass/piano/vocals) John Cromie (piano), Dick Austin (lead guitar) and Tony Cosmidis (drums).

After the first "Adelphos" Coffee Shop :
...the band disbanded but was called back soon to play at a special youth group night that featured a giant bananna split! Most band members decided to keep "Adelphos" going and it continued throughout the rest of 1975, culminating with the "Ol' '57 Rock Nite" in December of that year. The band was augmented with a large horn section (some of whom joined later), hence the "Blazing Horn" tag.

Into 1976, many members came and went with a stable line-up settling about September. This line-up consisted of Ralph Hiatt (lead vocals), Keith Charman (vocals/lead guitar), Keith de la Rue (vocals/rh. guitar), Terry Lewis (vocals/bass), Lindsay Paterson (vocals/trombone), Steve Hutton (alto sax) and Martin Zammit (drums). For the next 4 months, we embarked upon an ambitious program of 2 rehearsals per week and enjoyed increasing local popularity within the Melbourne Christian music scene. Our one-and-only 'tour' was over the Christmas-New Year period which saw us play at two Theo's summer Coffee Shops at Rosebud and Point Lonsdale and the international Scout Jamboree in Rowville to an audience of 15,000!. After the departure of more people, the band struggled onto it's last gig and ceased existence until being called upon the play the closing night of a new 'Adelphos' Coffee Shop at the original Hawthorn venue in 1978.

Nothing happened thereafter until Lindsay brought some ex-members together for a series of three reunion concerts during 1999. This line-up featured Ralph Hiatt (Lead vocals), Peter York (ld. guitar), Keith de la Rue (rh. guitar), Terry Lewis (bass), Steve Noy (sax), Lindsay Paterson (trombone), Martin Zammit (drums) and a special appearance by 13 year old Renee de la Rue (trumpet)........guitarist Keith's daughter!

During one of these evenings, Ralph was heard to say mid performance that the band did a Fifities Night during the '70's and was now doing a Seventies Night in the '90's; would we be doing a Nineties Night during "The Teens"?

The mind boggles.........we'll all be much older by then! Maybe our children could take Renee's lead, replace us oldies completely and perform as "The Adelphos Kids"?

I hear there's some great musical talent there!
